The Yankees were also one of the more active teams at the trade deadline, and maybe the most active buyers. They see their shot to win it all with a young Aaron Judge killing baseballs left and right and Luis Severino finally looking like the real deal, so they used the deadline to plug some gaps in their team. The bullpen received a boost, but most importantly they added two starting pitchers, both of whom will make their Yankee debut against the Indians this week.
This is by far the most interesting series over the weekend, as the Yankees go to Cleveland and face off against the Tribe for four straight games. The Yankees lost their lead in the division when the Indians gave up three runs in the bottom of the ninth to the Red Sox on Tuesday night. That just adds fuel to this series, not that it needs it. Both teams are 57-48 as of this writing with one more game each so it’s very possible they come in with the same record.
This game also features the debut of Sonny Gray who the Yankees just recently picked up in a trade with the Oakland A’s. Most people think the Yankees were able to get Gray without giving up much and won the trade easily. Now, it’s Gray’s turn to prove he is as good as the Yankees think. After all, this will be his first pennant race of his career.
